Description
What ideas / questions / reflections / challenges might be arising as you work with your theme (theme) – How are you working with the meaning of your word? Where are you drawing inspiration from?
I drew inspiration from two fellow artists; one is a woodworker who created the frame for my piece and one who is a dried flower artist, whose flowers I also incorporated in my design. I knew i wanted to incorporate those two elements and marry them somehow with pottery that I make. With those materials in mind, I let the design emerge slowly and over time as a way to honor the theme. I played with many additional elements before committing to the final design.
How were you introduced to art? Was it someone, a class, a culture, family, friends, etc.?
I can’t honestly recall. It feels like it has always been a part of my life.
What role does art play in your life today? How has art made you feel these past few months / year / during the pandemic?
Creative pursuits of all kinds have been a lifeline for me during the past few years. Writing, drawing, printing, ceramics…they have all played a big role in staying present and grounded during this difficult time. Maybe art was a way to grieve. I have not figured that out yet.
