What ideas / questions / reflections / challenges might be arising as you work with your theme (theme) – How are you working with the meaning of your word? Where are you drawing inspiration from?

I was really hoping not to get the word assigned to me. 🙂 “Messy” is a challenge, as I love to make order out of chaos in my compositions. But this allowed me to dig a little deeper to find inspiration and beauty in a wilder, less contained way.

How were you introduced to art? Was it someone, a class, a culture, family, friends, etc.?

I had a very free and unstructured childhood. My parents raised us to be resourceful, which was a great gift. I felt like a creative person from my earliest memories, but only added the concept of “artist” once I was studying in college, then making my way professionally.

What role does art play in your life today? How has art made you feel these past few months / year / during the pandemic?

I have been fortunate to have made a living artistically for many decades. So my work life itself is creatively satisfying. But setting a table, planning a garden, making a bed…all counts. And these small acts of artistry bring me daily solace…and have kept me grounded during the pandemic.
